gleewheelsIn the latest episode of Glee, the Glee Club members put on a bake sale to raise money to pay for an accessible bus for Artie, the Glee club member that's in a wheelchair. In addition, the Glee club members must spend 3 hours a day using a wheelchair, to prepare for their new dance number - which will be done from a wheelchair. The club puts together a pretty impressive dance number and gets a small taste of what it's like to use a wheelchair on a daily basis. Missed the episode? HBO Series Curb Your Enthusiasm recently came out with an episode that features the star of the show, Larry, going on a date with a girl in a wheelchair.

So Six People with Disabilities are Stranded on a Desert Island…

The plot of a new british television show, Cast Offscast offs, will leave 6 people with disabilities stranded on an Island for three months while they attempt to harvest crops, rear pigs, deliver babies and save chickens. The show is a spoof of reality television shows such as Survivor and Big Brother. The group of six actors joke about sex, swearing and political incorrectness. Two of the Three writers also have disabilities.

The goal of the writers is to demolish the “tragic” stereotype associated with people with disabilities. Producer Jack Thorne said “I hope it will do for disability what Queer as Folk did for gays – make everyone see that disabled people are no more and no less screwed up than anyone else.” Victoria Wright, one of the stars of the show, was quoted as saying “I am sure there are going to be a lot of people saying: ‘My goodness, I didn’t know disabled people could do that.' Stay tuned, this could be an interesting series!

‘Glee’ Cast to Win Hollywood Diversity Award

glee7The cast of Fox's television show 'Glee' will be presented with the favorite new diverse ensamble cast for 2009 by The Diversity Awards committee according to Today's Zaman.

The musical comedy series features a cast of students in an uncool high school glee club, including a boy in a wheelchair, a geeky girl, an Asian and an overweight African-American girl. The group is determined to overcome the odds and make it to the big time. Check local listings for air time.
